As a member of the Young Archaeologists' Club (YAC Scotland) and the Scottish Wildlife Trust, the Great Auks Club is at present being restructured. The club was open to children aged 7 to 15 years, but over the past 2 years club member registration has declined significantly, so the Education team have taken the decision to review the future of the club.
We will be starting a new monthly after school archaeology and wildlife club at Lochgilphead Joint Campus for S1 to S4 pupils, beginning in January 2016. We have an exciting programme of events planned for 2016 including visits to Arichonan settlement, clay reconstruction, bird box building and conservation workshops with Scottish Natural Heritage.
The club will run once a month during term time, and will offer activity days either at the museum or at archaeological and historic sites during school holidays.
If you are interested in finding out more, please contact the Education Team at email@example.com or 01546 510278.
Past Events The Great Auks Club took part in a variety of exciting projects in 2014-2015 including building a bug hotel in the museum garden, investigating “Poos of the Past” to find out about the diet of our ancestors, learning about dinosaurs and fossils, jewellery making and taking part in a bug hunt on the Moine Mhor NNR. The highlight was taking part in the Carnassarie excavation!
