The Regional Archaeological Research Framework for Argyll

The Regional Archaeological Research Framework for Argyll is a strategic online resource which presents a synthesis of archaeological knowledge of Argyll to the end of 2016.

The creation of the Framework was led by Kilmartin Museum, and facilitated by the Scottish Archaeological Research Framework and the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. It was the culmination of a collaborative process from across the archaeological community. This included academics, Museum professionals, developer-funded archaeologists and people involved in community archaeology across the whole region as well as national and regional heritage organisations.

Symposiums were organised in 2015 and 2016, providing a unique and important opportunity to discuss the significance of Argyll and Bute’s archaeology in its wider context. Participants not only identified research strengths but also where gaps in knowledge lay and suggested the directions future work might take. The findings included proposals for key research themes and questions.
