How to get here
We are 8 miles north of Lochgilphead and 30 miles south of Oban.
Arriving by bicycle?
Sustrans cycle route 78 passes very close to the museum, and we have 6 secure bike racks for those on 2 wheels.
Arriving by public transport?
There are public buses between Lochgilphead and Oban which pass through Kilmartin, but they are not frequent. Plan your journey on Traveline Scotland and www.westcoastmotors.co.uk for more information.
Arriving by car?
We are delighted that our redeveloped Museum has extra parking capacity on site, with space for 39 cars in total, including 3 accessible parking spaces with improved access to the Museum building. However, with the evidence generated by the public consultation in 2017, we know that parking in the village is a key concern for its residents, and even with this increase in parking capacity we expect that during the busiest periods considerate parking will be needed to ensure safe travel around and through Kilmartin.
As an alternative to parking at Kilmartin Museum it is possible to park at Carnasserie Castle and take a scenic walk from the Castle to Kilmartin. Or leave your vehicle at Lady Glassary car park and visit Temple Wood Stone Circle and the Linear Cemetery prior to arriving at the Museum. Both walks are approximately 1.5 miles each way and are mostly flat.
Is there electric vehicle charging on site?
Unfortunately, we cannot offer electric vehicle charging at present.
Coach operators
Coaches are asked to drop off visitors to the Museum and then park at Lady Glassary Car Park or Carnassarie Castle Car Park. Please do not block the bus stop in Kilmartin village.
Can motorhomes be parked at the Museum?
We do not have parking available for motor home vehicles on site. There is available parking nearby at the Lady Glassary car park, and Carnasserie Castle car park, both of which are approximately 1 mile from the museum.
